The second season of Booze Traveler begins tonight on The Travel Channel and we can’t wait to tune back in. Host Jack Maxwell tours the world drinking with local folks in far-flung places. This could have gone into cheesy territory, but thanks to Mr. Maxwell (think happy Anthony Bourdain with a cold beer ever in hand) and the wonderful places they explore it makes you want to belly up to the bar and drink with him on Monday nights.
Who am I kidding? I’m always in the mood for a drink. With Booze Traveler in mind, I thought I’d share a few of my favorite pours right now from around the globe.
Mexico: With a forecast of two more weeks of this relentless heat this Cabotella Mexican Ale is super frothy and light. It’s made in Los Cabos by the Baja Brewing Company — look for it at Whole Foods. On these hot nights, chill it down and bottoms up!
France: It’s still rosé all the way time over here. I’m loving this bright, fresh, French Provencal rosé, Cibonne Tentations. It’s under 20 bucks and trés delightful. A note from my wine dude: when buying rosé, always choose the latest vintage.
Italy: I’m gearing up for a trip to Italy this fall by practicing my Italian and drinking Campari and Soda. It’s crisp and refreshing, and I love the bitter notes of the Campari. I’ll often serve this as an aperitif or nightcap. After a big dinner, this cocktail makes for a great closer, “settles the old system” as my dad says.
Salud, Santé, Cin Cin!
Makes one cocktail
4 ounces Pellegrino or sparkling water (I say go with the Italian)
2 ounces Campari
Wedge of lime
Serve over ice
