October 4, 2013
It’s still hot in Santa Barbara, yet my garden seems to be following the calendar more than the weather report. We’re starting to harvest new potatoes, beautiful watermelon radishes along with replanting a ton of lettuce and herbs.
We’ve totally transitioned to autumn in the kitchen (well, autumn in our flip flops). I’ve been making kabocha squash soup, roasted apples with figs, and this wonderful early fall salad with cucumbers and oranges.
There is so much to taste this month- before heading to the store or farmers market be sure to check out the latest Pick Now! Calendar below to see the best of October’s offerings. I’ll be sharing recipes throughout the month as well.
If there are any particular recipes you’d like to see here, let me know— I’ve currently been experimenting with quince.
If you click on the map below, you’ll find an interactive version, giving you some facts about the showstoppers of the month and hyperlinks to Eat Drink Garden recipes for what’s in season now.
And this PDF below gives you a pretty printable version. Post it up as a reference on the fridge or take it with you to the grocery store or farmers market.
