Here’s a Brit Week challenge for you: Try to read this poem without that iconic Beatles’ chorus running through your head.
Wild Strawberries
Strawberries that in gardens grow
Are plump and juicy fine,
But sweeter far as wise men know
Spring from the woodland vine.
No need for bowl or silver spoon,
Sugar or spice or cream,
Has the wild berry plucked in June
Beside the trickling stream…

Unfortunately, Santa Barbara doesn’t have wild strawberries growing along wooded streams. However, I’m quite happy with my plump and juicy garden strawberries. Here’s a round up of some of my favorite ways of enjoying these summertime gems.
