Over the weekend, I threw on my big floppy sun hat and got down in the dirt to add more summer fare to our garden. I didn’t have a lot of time, but I did have a flat of impulse nursery purchases that had been hanging out in my garage for awhile.
We were a little light on peppers, so I bought enough seedlings to keep the salsa coming all the way into fall— Hungarian Wax, Padron and Shishito peppers now stand at spicy attention.
Next, I plugged in some cherry tomatoes along with purple and green basil. Last in line were some wild purple tomatillos I couldn’t resist buying. I love to use tomatillos for both cooking and flower arranging. Thirty minutes in the garden resulted in some pretty dirty fingernails and a fresh round of summer in my harvest baskets.
